RidgeView and Thomas Wines emerged as the big winners in the Hunter Valley Boutique Wine Show awards last night at Crowne Plaza.

RidgeView picked up a major double, winning best white wine of show for their 2009 Semillon, and the Karl Stockhausen Trophy for their 2014 chardonnay.

Thomas Wines produced the best red wine of show for their 2016 TW2 shiraz.

Chairman of judges Keith Tulloch was impressed by the overall quality of wines on offer, especially as many were from the challenging 2015 and 2016 vintages.

“The quality was impressive, no doubt about it,” he said.

“Shiraz and semillon were the stand-outs just as they always are, and there was some very good chardonnay tasted too.”

Mr Tulloch said some of the lesser known Italian varietals such as fiano and barbera were really starting to shine as well.
