Presented by the Around Hermitage Wine and Food Trail, Hunter Valley

5 & 26 May 2018

Around Hermitage’s Wine, Food and Film Festival is in its third year! This year the festival will run over two distinct weekends, the first and last weekends of May.

The first weekend will see the return of Flickerfest at Peter Drayton’s Winery and Brewhouse. On the second weekend, following on from the success of the “Life of Brian”, the Around Hermitage team will be producing its own unique film based on Australia’s first cookery book: “Cookery for the Many as well as for the Upper 10,000” published in 1864.

The Film Festival coincides with the Hunter Valley’s Wine and Food Festival, many events will be held in the area to enjoy over both weekends.

Cookery for the Many, as well as for the Upper Ten Thousand
150 years of Australia’s the Most Entertaining Food and Wine
A film by the AROUND HERMITAGE team

We take our “Hunter Valley Wine Country Diners Club” back in time to 1864, the year of the first Australian cookery, home entertaining and etiquette book was published. We visit historical Hunter Valley wineries, homes and towns, as we hunt, gather, travel, bake, boil, fry, smoke, dress and dine from the pages of “Cookery for the Many, as well as for the Upper Ten Thousand” by Tasmanian Aristologist” Edward Abbott.

How much are modern Australian dining and entertaining habits influenced by our European ancestors? We’ll find out with the help of the Hunter Valley’s winemakers, chefs, historians and celebrities. We’ll compare the food, wine, lifestyles and entertainment customs of 1800’s ancestors with those of the kitchens and dining rooms of today.

Edward Abbott, Australia’s Mrs. Beeton, was interested in everything, ready for anything, afraid of nothing, and that’s our motto, as we take on the “Cookery for the Many, as well as for the Upper Ten Thousand” challenge.
